I can’t even begin to count how many times I have started, edited, deleted, and started again to write my President’s Message for our 2021-2022 year. Do I want to sound welcoming and excited for the coming year, even though COVID-19 still lingers over our heads? Do I want to sound cautious and focus on all the changes that our League will need to face once again? Do I avoid referencing the pandemic entirely and pretend it’s not still affecting all our lives in one way or another?
There is no denying that this year, like the last, will have its changes to how we fulfil our League’s mission. What makes us a strong League is our flexibility and our ability to be accommodating. With that in mind, we have planned for in-person General Membership Meetings (GMM), more 19th at Nights, and even our Holiday Party and June Dinner.

The goal is to host as many in-person events as we can but we will ultimately determine how we meet based on recommendations from the CDC, New York State, and Dutchess County.
In recent years, each of our Presidents have selected a hashtag, or motto, to set the tone for the year. Past hashtags have been #bettertogether, #100yearsinspired, #alwaysfindaway, #bethechange, and #getonboard. This year, I have chosen the phrase #ownit.
In our personal, professional, and JLP lives, we do amazing things and it’s important that we own it. Be proud of yourself, your accomplishments, and own it. Having a rough day? Be mindful of your feelings and own it. Assigned a big project at work? Own it. We did not survive a pandemic to be anything less than fabulous.
I am honored and humbled to serve as our League’s President, and I look forward to working with you all to make our little slice of the world a little bit better. Myself, along with the women of the Board, are here to help you #ownit.
